Prepping Your Flowers
After getting your fresh flowers online or from a local flower shop, the first step is to prep them so they last longer. For roses, you will need to remove the guard petals to give them a fresh appearance. The fresh petals will no longer be needed once the flowers arrive and can now be removed to reveal fresher petals. Now, it’s time to trim the stems of your flowers so they can suck up water easily. When your flowers arrive, there is a tendency that the stems will be a bit dry which will prevent them from taking up water and nutrients easily.
Get a Proper Vase
You will need a proper base to put your fresh flowers in. Clear the vase with soap and water for removing possible dirt and bacteria. You will need to add a considerable amount of water into the vase before putting your flowers in them. Some flowers also come with flower goods from the florist, so be sure to add those into the water in the recommended amount. Once you have put your fresh flowers into the vase, be sure to check the water level to ensure it is enough.
Find the Right Spot
The location where you decide to place your fresh flowers is also important in determining how long they last. Place your flowers in areas where there is just enough sunlight coming in, but not too much as this can cause the leaves or petals to wilt easily. Dark and stuffy areas can cause your flowers to wither faster than they should. Picking a nice spot for your flowers also make sure that they are beautiful in your space as they can liven up the area. Changing the location regularly also ensures the flowers get the right amount of daylight at different times of the day.
Change Out the Water
Contrary to what some people think, fresh blossoms require clean water every other day or every three days. It ensures that the flower gets the nutrients it needs to remain fresh for a long period. Stale water can also serve as a breeding ground for bacteria and germs which could be harmful to human beings. Change out the water regularly with some of the flower food added (if any was given). For flowers that come with flower food, a good amount is added to the package that can last about a week or two.
